Married At First Sight: Introducing The New Couples!

Married At First Sight is back with season four this Tuesday, July 26th, on FYI and A&E. I always get so excited for new couples. And during this difficult time in Doug’s and my life right now I am loving having this distraction.

Crazy Enough To Marry A Stranger

When my husband and I explain the way we met it always goes like this: “We were strangers when we we met at the altar. We married each other minutes later.” While their mouth drops to the floor we fill the awkward silence with “Yeah, I know, we are crazy. It’s ok, you can say it.” [I wish my blog had more than just smiley face emoji’s because I’d insert the huge, wild, crazy smiley face emoji here.]

In the first year most people laughed at us. And I completely understand why! If you’ve never watched Married At First Sight then you’d think it was just some INSANE reality tv show — God knows there are tons of them these days. If you didn’t know the science behind the unique match-making process and counseling/therapy from the experts during this “experiment” you’d think these people are NUTS.

Ok, maybe even after knowing all of this you still think we’re nuts and that’s cool, too, but that’s not the point. My point is now when I tell people that my husband and I are happily married (and trying for a baby) almost two and a half years later they don’t laugh us off quite as much — or this crazy experiment that brought us together.

I believe true love and happiness can happen for another couple married on Married At First Sight. Each season I cheer the couples along because I know how amazing the journey from ‘married and strangers’ to ‘married and in love’ is.

Who Are The New Singles Believing In Married At First Sight

I got a bit ahead of myself, I can’t introduce the new couples…yet. These six strangers need to be matched together, meet at the altar, and marry each other before we can go there. Let’s hope they all make it down the aisle.

I had the pleasure of meeting every single person from this new season — except Heather — when we filmed Married At First Sight: Unfiltered last month.

*Side note: MAFS: Unfiltered is really going to be an AWESOME show. It airs immediately after MAFS only on FYI. I sit down and talk to these guys about behind-the-scenes moments and find out what they were really thinking throughout their journey.

Here’s What I Can Tell You About These Individuals:

Ladies first, of course! 😉 Let’s begin with Heather Seidel, 32, because I actually didn’t get to meet her. She wasn’t able to film for MAFS: Unfiltered due to her work schedule. Heather is a flight attendant! She loves to travel. I don’t know an awful lot about her, but I am excited to get to know her more on Married At First Sight.

I can’t say enough good things about Lillian. Let’s begin with the basics. Her friends call her Lilly. (I love her name. When Doug and I first got pregnant one of the names we were throwing around for a girl was Lillian and we would nickname her Lilly. It’s a beautiful name!) Back to Lillian. 🙂 She was surprisingly a bit shorter than I anticipated — she looks taller on TV. She is full of class. She’s a real estate agent in Florida and from what I hear she is quite successful with her job. Something that surprised me about Lilly is that she is quite young. She’s only 24. I guess I was so surprised because she comes off very mature, confident, and elegant. You know when they say “We all have a story.” Well it couldn’t be more true. Lilly’s parents divorced when Lilly was late in her teens — after her mom found out her dad had a whole other family that he was apart of. Since then her dad has completely left her life to be with this other family. This obviously has had a very big impact on Lilly. Here’s hoping she finds her true, everlasting love on this season of Married At First Sight! Rooting for you, girl!

Last but certainly not least: Sonia Granados, 33. She is really such a BIG sweetheart! She has a huge heart. She’s a social worker who works with foster children. Being that I began taking care of my three younger siblings when I was 19 and later became a certified foster parent because I wanted to help more kids I feel like I really appreciate Sonia and what she does. After moving to NYC I wasn’t able to take children in. One day I want to get back into foster care…I aspire to be more like Sonia. She is truly very selfless and caring. But the thing that shocked me when I sat down with Sonia’s friends for MAFS: Unfiltered is that they say she has a “feisty, sassy, fun side.” This is my kinda girl — sweet and selfless but a real good time, too! I cannot wait to see how things work out for Sonia! Rooting for you too, girl!

Now For The Guys

Introducing Mr. Tom Wilson. This guy is a funny, talkative, fun-loving guy! He is immediately likable. The charm just rolls off his shoulders. He’s a 28 year old man who lives on a bus. Yes, you heard me right. He lives on a bus. Apparently this bus is a remodeled RV. Being that he spends all day, every day designing and decorating YACHTS for a living I imagine his bus is fancier than it sounds. But talk about “tiny living!” And this just screams commitment issues. I mean at any given moment he can get up and go and take his home with him! Hmm, this one will be interesting to watch, for sure!

Derek Schwartz, 35 years old. He has a history in the Navy, but now works in marketing. Don’t let his “tough-guy” image with the Navy background, tattoos, and folded arms fool you — he is actually very sweet, soft spoken, and seemingly sensitive. He also comes off a bit shy to me. I met a lot of his friends while I was down in Miami. They are all loud, rambunctious and very sarcastic! Something tells me Derek is like an onion…you’ve got to spend time with him and peel back his layers. He doesn’t show all his cards right away. Fun fact: he was raised by a single momma — shout out to all the single mommas out there! He says his biggest fear is failing at something he is committed to. Well Derek, I wish you all the luck in the world now that you’ve committed to Married At First Sight! Hoping you find love and happiness with your future bride!

Nick Pendergast. Credit: Karolina Wojtasik

What a cutie, huh? (Of course not cuter than my hubby, though!) 😉 Nick Pendergrast is 32 years old and fit and athletic. He’s bound to make any girl swoon at first sight. He’s a self-professed introvert. There seems to be a theme with occupations this season. Lilly works in real estate, Tom works on Yachts, and Nick works in real estate as well! Ok, maybe the yacht doesn’t quite fit in, but if I owned a yacht I’d live on it! I can see commonalities between these individuals already! I’m excited to see Nick meet his match. Obviously I already know who she is since I met them all, but I am excited to see how you all react to who he is paired with! Wishing you lots of luck in LOVE, Nick!

  1. Kathy I totally agree with you! When I first started watching I said to myself why didn’t they put Derrick and Sonia together?? And Heather and Nick, they would of been perfect for each other. They could sit around and make each other as miserable as they want to be together! Hahaha! But seriously you are totally right Kathy!

  2. I cannot believe no one has noticed that Sonia and Derrick would have been the best couple that I guarantee would have worked out perfectly. Heather and Nick are more well matched with their stand offish personalities and obvious inability to take this process and commitment seriously. On the other hand, Sonia and Nick would have worked out amazingly!

    1. haha! I think every season I think “so and so should have been matched with so and so – it would have been SO much better!” ha! ..Not gonna lie, I can see your point here!

  3. Soooo Jamie…I would guess that you MIGHT know how this all turns out but maybe not. But my opinion…not taking into account their background, what they do for a living or where they live…but solely on chemistry is this: Tom and Lilly’s chemistry was off the charts wonderful. They clearly connected. Derek and Heather did connect, but less so. I didn’t see any chemistry between Nick and Sonia…in part because I think Nick is introverted and Sonia is bubbly and expressive. That’s not necessarily bad since my parents were like that but I didn’t see the same connection in them that I saw in the other two couples. On the positive side, I do see more possibilities of happy ending than I saw last season…or so it appears from the first episode.

You more than ANYONE knows that having chemistry on the first show doesn’t ensure a happy marriage. Quite often the reverse is true…I can still picture your face on your wedding day and look at you guys now!! You guys are my favorite MAFS couple ever! I follow you on social media, especially IG, and feel as if I’ve gone on your marriage journey with you both. Gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing you and Doug are only a few miles away from me in NJ. Don’t worry…I won’t come by to stalk you both! Just want to wish you both the best of everything. BTW, I recently saw you on Dr. Oz recently…great job! Finally, I want to say to both of you, that I am so, so sorry for your loss. I’ve been sending you both healing prayers for a while now.

    1. I 100% agree with you. Just knowing their backgrounds I’d think Tom and Lilly wouldn’t connect, but WOW did they ever! (I hope she still likes him after she hears he lives on a bus!) …How fun! We are neighbors! 🙂 Thanks for your support and prayers. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of my little Johnathan. xoxo

  4. I’ve only managed to hang with the show one season (take a bow, Jamie and Doug) and I’m actually not a reality TV fan in general (unless soccer counts!) but I truly love the idea of the show, which I find somewhat countercultural. That is: that love is (to some extent, anyway) chosen. You don’t just helplessly stumble into it and then simply follow your feelings blindly. Becoming “soulmates” isn’t like lightning striking; it’s the result of countless small (and some big) decisions over time to trust, to forgive, to sacrifice, and to move toward another person in moments of both joy and adversity. OK, end epistle. 😉 Thanks for being a transparent model for those who follow in your footsteps.

  5. Tom and Lillian…Nick and Sonia…Derek and Heather…those are my guesses. Looks like an interesting season…hope they all find the love they’re looking for…but MAFS will always be Doug and Jamie for me. Thinking of you both…sending love and light. xxx

  6. My guess is Sonia and Derek, Lilly and Tom, Heather and Nick. Can you tell me how many i got right? I’m so excited for the new season! And, Jamie, HUGE hug to you and Doug! I’m so sorry. xoxoxo

  7. Thanks Jamie this is what I kept asking the show to do put there pictures with names and who they are your awesome
