GUYS! How great was the first episode of season 4 of Married At First Sight?! This show has me so hooked (probably because I know how ahhhmazing it can be if each couple really gives it a shot). Let’s jump right into the meat and bones and all the good stuff!

The Couples Are Paired

The couples are Nick and Sonia, Tom and Lillian, and Derek and Heather. To learn more about each of these guys click here. I have to say, I think all of these couples are paired quite well…except for maybe one couple.

This bride looks gorgeous. Lillian doesn't need the pearls anyway!

Tom and Lillian

In my opinion—and “opinions are like a$$holes and everyone’s got one,” so take this with a grain of salt—we may find some trouble with Tom and Lillian. I mean, he lives on a bus and she’s a realtor. I don’t know what she’s going to think when she finds out he lives on a converted bus. But then again, we haven’t seen this bus. And from what I understand he decorates and remodels the interior of YACHTS for a living. So back to what Salt and Pepa said circa the early 1990’s: “Opinions are like a$$holes and everyone’s got one.” This opinion of mine may come back and bite me in the butt. They may be a happy, go-lucky couple right now. And my hopeless romantic heart hopes that they are…even if I have to endure a bite in the butt! 😉

This bride looks pretty happy here. Why did Sonia say she wanted to run? Yep, stole this right from her insta, too. You should follow her, too. :-)

Nick and Sonia

Now this is what I’m talking about. These two are going to look smokin’ hot together! Sonia is absolutely stunning and Nick isn’t half bad himself. But they can only look great together if Sonia doesn’t run… and she’s already mentioned that all she wants to do is “run.” Ut oh. Will we have our very first run-away bride?! Hopefully she doesn’t leave Nick in the dust.

This is not the face of a happy bride. Heather looks absolutely petrified here.

Derek and Heather

This is another good looking couple, but another one I don’t feel 100% confident about. Heather is a flight attendant (dream job!) so she’s always traveling. That can make it super hard on any relationship, let alone a brand new one…and being stranger newlyweds makes it all the more difficult. But who knows if they’ll even make it down the aisle since Heather looks straight into the camera and says she is feeling “overwhelmed.” I remember when I was about to be Married At First Sight. I felt those same exact feelings. My best advice for you Heather is to just hang on, girl! Know that it gets better! Your wedding day is going to be SUPER scary and overwhelming, but try to enjoy it and live in the moment. Whatever you do, don’t think about being “married” and everything that entails. It will only scare you and make you want to bail because it is incredibly overwhelming… and if you let the fear control you it will just ruin your chance for your happily ever after. I have a feeling you may have more fear than happiness on your wedding day. (And if you do you wouldn’t be the first—I was the same exact way.) I feel your pain, girl. I’m cheering for you to make it to “I do.”

Bad Omens

No one wants a bad omen on their wedding day, but I feel like bad omens are just following Lillian around. She can’t seem to get rid of ’em. First she goes wedding dress shopping with her mom. She finds a dress she really likes (I LOVED that dress on her) but her mom immediately said “NO! It has pearls and they’re a bad omen on your wedding day.” Lillian’s family is Nicaraguan and that is their cultural belief. So obviously Lillian chose another (equally as stunning) dress—sans the pearls. She wanted nothing to do with any bad omens for her wedding day. Fast forward to the day of her wedding. Her husband-to-be, Tom, sends her a gift. It’s really a very sweet gift and super thoughtful of him, but when Lillian opens it you see her heart sink and smile fade. Pearls. Ah, this girl can’t win. She struggles with the thought of just wearing them because she didn’t want to hurt her future husband, but her mom talks her out of it. You’d think that’d be enough “bad luck” for one couple, but the previews for their wedding day don’t look so hot. Actually, they don’t look hot at all. They look super wet and rainy and cloudy. Geesh, first the pearls, then the rainy weather. But you know what they say about rain on your wedding day: it’s good luck. Maybe that will cancel out all the negativity with the pearls! We shall see!

Married At First Sight:Unfiltered

Fun fact from Sonia’s best friend: I learned about sweet little Sonia during MAFS:Unfiltered—she can be quite a sassy, sexy lady! For a social worker I was shocked to hear this. She’s like the modern day version of the “sexy librarian.”

Best advice from Nick’s mom: “Get to know your future wife before becoming intimate. Intimacy will come.”

I love MAFS:Unfiltered because these guys’ family and friends aren’t holding back any secrets. We learn more about each of these individuals than we would if we were just watching them on Married At First Sight! If you missed last week’s episode of Married At First Sight: Unfiltered don’t worry! I added the video to this blog so you can watch below! 🙂

  1. I love the couples this season. It’s the first time it feels like the show is in it for the couples over ratings since season 1. I’m having doubts about Derek and Heather though. At the risk of maybe ruffling feathers…Heather comes across a lot like Ashley from season 3 and I really hope it’s just nerves and fear of the unknown because Derek seems really great and they could have something special if they can overcome the bumps they are experiencing.

  2. I was pleasantly surprised with the couples this season. I had been so disappointed in the last two seasons of MAFS. After watching the weddings last night I have to say that I REALLY am routing for Lillian. The chemistry is definitely there, but I am with you and have hesitations on how things will go with his living on a bus and being such a huge surfer dude. 🙂 She seems much more together than him. Can’t wait to see how things go with all the couples though! 🙂

    1. I am really rooting for Lillian, too! Their chemistry is off the charts! I hope it doesn’t fizzle and burn (because of bus), but they seem so genuine so I can’t imagine it will! YAY! Excited to watch these couples!

  3. After watching the first MAFS the others have not compared, but I do love the show. The only couple I have doubts about is Derek and Heather, her attitude just isn’t what it should be in my opinion; I wish them all well though.

  4. I don’t understand how people sign up for this, obviously having watched previous shows, and then fight and cry and wonder why they did this? Is it mostly to have the possibility of tv career?

    1. Ya know I think that it’s all fun and games until you’re in your wedding gown and walking down the aisle to a complete stranger. Then reality sets in and you freak out (at least I know that happened to me). BUT I really wanted love and marriage and happiness so I stuck it out (and obviously my husband was very patient, loving, and respectful). I think there are a lot of variables in as to why some couples work and others don’t.

  5. I swore off MAFS because the last two seasons were so disappointing, but here I am again. I have more confidence in this crop of experts, too. Tom definitely doesn’t seem like husband material to me, but he could surprise me. Derek needs to open up or he’ll get steamrolled and squashed like a bug. Good luck to all six contestants in this game of life!
