Seven Year Switch: Awkward

This is the real couple. Dustin gets paired with Kelsey and it seems like sparks ignite immediately! Yikes.

Awkward Relationships

Andddd the awkward moments just won’t stop. As the couples keep watching footage with their spouses, things get more and more tense. The most interesting thing is that Jaclyn is blaming Kelsey, but giving her hubby Dustin a hall pass for his flirtatious, free spirit. I think we’ll have to revisit this. But for now, yeah, there’s drama flying every which way.

Looking On The Bright Side

Liliya and Aaron seem to be taking everything as a lesson. It’s sinking in for both of them that their spouses need a lot more support. This couple scared me in the beginning of the experiment, but they’ve stayed very faithful to their spouses thus far.

The therapy has definitely kicked in heavy duty after that SpyCam footage was released last week…and it’s so amazing to see the experts break down what’s going on with each person. I feel like I’m learning a lot about myself from watching them!

Seeing Tony and Heather— the caretakers— defending their spouses really hits home for me. I’m the same way! Maybe that’s the reason they’re so easy to love! I could watch them all day. Seriously. But I do think Charles is right…Heather needs to examine why she gives Aaron credit for only meeting her halfway. I think Heather kind of gives Aaron a “get out of jail free card” for a lot in life. Hopefully he will realize this and appreciate it after the experiment. *Fingers crossed.*

When Charles brings up the fact that Aaron is putting the same amount of effort into this experiment that he was putting into his marriage with Heather, I think he really struck a nerve— but in the best way. Us spouses need a reality check sometimes and I’m so glad to see how this opens these couples’ eyes in a way that they were never expecting.

ROAD TRIP

So, who’s up for a road trip!? You didn’t think these couples were just going to sit around the house all day, right? Livin’ it up in Malibu, just taking in the scenery with their new spouses? Negative.

The experts send the couples on a road trip to “explore intimacy.” This should be good. Or very bad. I can think of one couple that does not need any help exploring intimacy. (Insert that monkey emoji that covers his eyes here!)

Each pair goes somewhere different and get assignments to complete. One of which includes…are you ready?

TOUCHLESS MASSAGES

What is a touchless massage?

Why, I’m glad you asked!

Just what it sounds like, people…running your hands over your spouse’s body without actually touching them! I mean, when you think about it— it’s so out of the box, that it just might work! You have to kind of relax into the idea of being intimate…and that’s kind of big for some of these spouses who have never even thought about letting anyone in that deep. I think it’s so smart to do this in a way that really makes you think about the WHY of the issue. Folks, you have my permission to try this at home!

You’re welcome. 🙂

As expected, some of the couples have difficulty with this experiment, but the real test of intimacy issues AND relationship boundaries comes up later when the couples find out that there’s only one bed in each of their rooms. Oh, dear. So, they’re faced with two options: either A) Sleep in the bed with each other or B) One person curls up on the hard tile or the bathtub. Heads or tails?

Turns out, this is a real head scratcher.

Spoiler Alert

Three out of four of these couples have a really hard time deciding to sleep together. Of course, the sexual tension between Kelsey and Dustin only gets stronger by the idea of sleeping together, but the other three pairs look like they’d rather not sleep at all than to have to make this kind of decision.

But aside from this rock-and-a-hard-place situation, the couples learn a lot more about themselves on this trip, and I’m here for every bit of it! It was such an eye-opening moment when Aaron saw some of his personality traits in Liliya at the pool. I felt the same way watching Jaclyn and James talk about how he can be “a real husband” to Kelsey when he gets home.

To me, that’s what this experiment is all about.

Next week, we see things kind of climb to a boiling point. Jaclyn gets to meet Kelsey? I have a feeling that the gloves are going to come off in that episode. Yikes!
