Married At First Sight: Weddings (Spoiler Alert: Precious)

Mark it down on the calendar and in the history books: Married At First Sight season 4 is the very first season where all couples are into their stranger spouses!!! And Hot Damn, they are REALLY into their new hubby/wifey! Wow, I kinda love watching these weddings where all the couples are gooing and gaahing—are these even words?!—at each other. (Except maybe Nick, we’re still feeling this one out.)

Now Let’s Get To The Good Stuff—The Weddings

This is how Lilly and Tom said "I do."
This is how Lilly and Tom said “I do.”

Tom and Lilly

Tom and Lilly had by far the most chemistry. It was almost like they’d known each other for years the way they went in for a warm hug and kissed immediately after saying “I do.” What’s most surprising about this is the events leading up to their wedding. I mean, it was literally bad omen after bad omen. First it was the pearl dress Lilly picked out. Her mom put her foot down and made her change her dress because in Nicaraguan culture pearls on your wedding day is bad luck. Then we get to the day of the wedding. The soon-to-be bride and groom exchange gifts. Tom gives Lilly a pearl necklace. Lilly is bummed because she can’t wear it and she doesn’t want her future husband to think she didn’t like and/or appreciate the gift. (Side note: how sweet is it that she’s already thinking of her future hubby’s feelings.) And, can I get a drum roll please, right as their wedding—outside wedding I should add—is to begin the grey clouds start rolling in and the rain comes falling down. But here’s what surprises me most: Lilly, Tom, and all of their guests don’t let it cloud their day, pun intended.

Not your typical wedding but these guys don't seem to be complainin' - Tom and Lilly have some pretty awesome friends and family!

If you want real first impressions of your stranger spouse and their family there’s no better way than to see how they react when it down-pours leaving everyone soaking wet during the wedding.

I’d say the bride, groom, and both of their families are pretty darn awesome. But most props go to the bride. I don’t know how I would react if it was my big day and I had to walk down the aisle slushing through puddles of water while my hair and make up are getting washed away by the rain. And on top of that, making my first impression to my future husband and his whole family while drenched isn’t exactly my idea of a good time. Lilly, you’re one humble, amazing, selfless person. There’s no question about that. And, you looked absolutely stunning through it all. You may very well be my hero. 🙂

Aww, God is blessing them with sunshine. Gives me all the feels. <3

One more thing I want to add before I move on to the other couples:  My absolute favorite thing about this wedding is the fact that immediately after they said “I do” the clouds parted and the sun came out. Now, if that’s not a GOOD omen, I don’t know what is. What a fairytale.

Derek and Heather

Heather wasn’t quite as calm as Lilly. Actually, she wasn’t calm at all. I’m going to throw it out there that I predict Heather is a Type-A, super analytical gal. (No judgement, I am, too.) Heather was all up in her head before walking down the aisle. She was super overwhelmed and frightened, but she seemed to calm down the moment she laid eyes on her stranger hubs, Derek. And I totally understand why. Derek is pretty handsome. I mean, someone has already created a instagram account named “Dreamy Derek.”

Heather before she says "I do."
Heather before she says “I do.”

Derek on the other hand seemed to be in love the moment he laid his eyes on Heather. She’s a beautiful blonde with bright blue eyes. But one thing he did left me thinking, “Derek! No! Don’t do that!” After the wedding the bride and groom immediately take their wedding photos. Normal, right? Maybe for the rest of the world, but Derek and Heather have only known each other for 30 minutes tops. During the photo session the photographer asks them to look a bit more intimate. Derek begins kissing Heather’s shoulder. EEEEEK! You could see all over Heather’s face that she was not having it. I don’t think she was trying to be rude—and I don’t think Derek was trying to overstep—but yeah, all of that definitely happened. The photographer was asking them to try and look like a “married couple.” I remember our photographer was the same for my Married At First Sight wedding. My husband was like Derek and got all into the Newlywed photos but my Type A/analytical (I told you) brain screamed “BUT WE JUST MET!” So, heather I get you. I couldn’t phone in the “We’re a lovey-dovey, happy married couple” for my wedding photos, either.

Not your average wedding photo. lol.

Neither is this. I've got a bad case of the side eye here. lol

Nick and Sonia

This couple has me on a roller coaster of emotions. Last week I predicted they were going to be a DEFINITE hit. This week I am not so sure. If you base your prediction off their wedding ceremony you’d think “Aww, they’re so cute!” Sonia wrote a cutesy little poem in her vows to Nick. She showed off her quirky side saying, “Roses are red, violets are blue, I’m marrying a stranger and so are you.” Nick seemed to like Sonia and her poem and everything was going fine…until they began making small talk right after their ceremony (which was outside and full of sun might I add)!

They do look very nice together. :-)
They do look very nice together. 🙂

Sonia admits “This is awkward.” Nick tries to smooth over the weirdness of it all by saying “You’re going to love my dogs.” Sonia’s genuine smile turns into one of those half, lopsided, forced smiles and says “I’m a little afraid of dogs.”

Sonia and Nick continue with their wedding celebration by heading into the reception. Sonia confides in Nick’s mom (he’s a self-proclaimed momma’s boy, fyi) that Nick never told her she looked beautiful. Never mind that Nick’s mom says she is going to have a chat with him. The fact that Sonia is worried Nick isn’t into her is going to put a damper on their reception, no doubt.

In a weird turn of events Sonia’s bridesmaid’s are chatting it up with Nick when he tells them “I love her” (referring to Sonia). WAIT, hold up. Huh? This is strange to hear coming from this newlywed, stranger hubby, who can’t even tell his new wife she looks beautiful. This is a bit of a red flag to me. I squeeze out more details about this on Married At First Sight: Unfiltered where I chat with the family and friends of Married At First Sight to find out what’s happening behind the scenes. 1. Jamie- I’m thrilled your still with Douglas! I truly believe that you both have represented the commitment and grit it takes to stay married when differences seem to point toward splitting. Sam for Courtney and Jason. Tis so true that getting past all those thoughts of why it may not work and sticking it out regardless can ideas lead to a wonderful bond.
Here’s my issue after a disastrous season 3 pairing and season 4 becoming another train wreck for all couples in my opinion. Hope I can be honest and not have my comment deleted due to the negative aspects of the show now obviously continuing with season 4. Particularly since you are now employed by the program. (kudos btw!)
Re; Derek and Heather: Twofold question: The show early on presented the issue of his smoking was cigarettes (problem; misleading viewers aka: audience manipulation). His issue is in fact weed ( which I thought from day 1 as he presented himself . Zero judgement toward him- been known to engage myself though to a much lesser extent! Experts and show producers claim this extensive vetting process. Do they include use of marijuana or whatever other substance? Since they began this season pointing to his smoking habit as cigarettes, it’s very difficult to discern If Heather is reacting to cigs or weed. Clarifying her answer to “not bothered too much by occasional smoking” the smoking of what and being truthful would give the show more credence and less of a feeling of manipulation which occurs in every form of media today,

  2. I like all of them but am endeared to Tom and Lily. They seem so natural except for Tom’s judgement about material things. I’m not materialistic but hope he doesn’t judge Lily if she has a reaction to his tour bus. I know at that age I’d have lived anywhere but as you get older and established I’d want a little more. I know there is a whole Tiny House movement and that’s okay for some but not everyone wants that. She may not like that but that doesn’t mean she’s being judgemental. I hope Heather loosens up a bit too.

  3. I have been watching all season of married at first sight. What I have captured is that while marrying a complete stranger they are still not getting the truth about marriage. Marriage is a committed commitment to endure for better or worse. While these people signed up for this show they really didn’t fully capture how important marriage is and it’s really not about you, but the other person. The couples that are currently married did invest in the other person and the other persons feelings were always being worked on. With Jamie her husband was slow,, patient and when he made a mistake he owned it and was sincere in his apologie. Jason wife was by his side during his mom’s sickness. They all compromised and were thoughtful and when they weren’t they owned it and worked at it and involved the therapist for help. All other couples didn’t really work at there marriage and didn’t invest in each other or the help of the therapist. If any couple put together works and invests in the marriage with truthfulness and selflessness I believe it can work. It takes both the wife and husband to work at it to work otherwise why even sign up !!! Marriage is work even if you fall in love first! Nothing works in life if you don’t invest time and effort!

    1. You’re so right! I think a lot of the reasons why Doug and I worked during the hardest times in our marriage is because we committed. But, I know that we are also very lucky to have each other and sometimes it’s not just as easy as that. I hope these couples have a happy and successful marriage. 🙂

  4. I have high hopes for all the couples! I think Nick and Sonia might have a really good chance once they start communicating a bit more. So addicted to watching this show and following you all on social media!!

    1. I agree about that communication issue but then again they just met…and God knows I communicated a bit TOO many thoughts too quickly. So who knows, maybe better not to say so much before thinking. lol

  5. I love Tom and Lily together and I am really pulling for them, but it bothers me that Tom hasn’t told Lily that he lives in a bus. I know at this point they haven’t known each other long at all and he wants the honeymoon to be perfect (who doesn’t!) but that is something major that I think he should have told her a lot sooner than what it looks like he’s going to. I’m afraid she’s going to be upset and be afraid he will keep important things from her in the future. We shall see!! Thank you for your blog and for sharing your life with all your fans! You and Doug will forever be my favorite MAFS couple!

    1. Aww, thanks Kelly! 🙂 I agree. I know he must be scared because he really likes her, but getting it out in the open will be less “drama” than holding on and telling later because then it inevitably becomes a “big deal.” But, I know I was not thinking clearly when I married a stranger so I feel for him. 🙂

  6. I love Tom and Lily but I think living in the bus is never going to work. Mit would be one thing if it was completely remodeled and beautiful like a motor home but I know I would hate it. I can guarantee lily is nit going to be “a happy camper”. Pun intended lol

  7. I’m totally rooting for these couples they are all so cute together!!!!! I think they finally got it right after the last few seasons of failed attempts. I just hope heather can get out of her nit picking over analyzing. I know I do the same thing. You and Doug were by far my favorite couple and when u got mad about the smoking thing I wanted to jump through the tv and say nooooooo haha. I’m a night shift nurse looking for a good man to settle down with so I always felt a connection with you guys. Thanks for the great blog

  8. Jamie I love your opinions… I love Lilly but he best own up to where he lives.. waiting for the other shoe to fall when he finds out she drives a luxury car.. this girl “rocks” the other couples I find to be great matches but there will be those “moments” for sure.. One big question however is how they choose you , Courtney and Even Monet.. I bonded with the origi0nal 3 like never before and most likely even after..
Thanks for keeping us up to date and informed..

    1. They called us. Then interview us like crazy to see who we are inside and out in order to pair us with a “perfect match.” I really like Lily too. She’s so young – only 24 – and has her life more in order than I do. lol

  9. I love them all!! ❤️❤️
I think if they are willing to compromise they could all end up like you and Doug & Kortney and Jason!! This is the best season since season 1! ❤️

  10. Something awesome about Tom and Lily. And Mike and I got married outside on the beach and it was pouring rain up until we walked down to say our vows. Been great luck for us!!! Can’t wait to see what is in store for all the couples!

  11. To me they all made a good match under the circumstances so my hopes were high for all three couples. Then I saw some clips from the next show and every one of them were having some kind of blow up….not good and made me very sad. I remember this happening with both you and Doug and Courtney and Jason and look how awesome you couples came out so, I’m going to hope for the best!!

I think these three couple are my favorite since season one with you and Doug and Courtney and Jason. I’m anxious for the next show now!! Loving it! #hugefan #mafsaddict
