Oh My Goodness! Where do I begin?! I am so THRILLED, ECSTATIC, ELATED (AND EVERY GOOD FEELING!!!) to announce Doug and I are expecting our very first baby – and it’s the first Married At First Sight baby, too! We shared the news on The Today show with Kathie Lee and Hoda! So Fun!

When we confirmed our pregnancy via ultrasound we took this photo of one of each of our hands making a heart right over the baby. Doug was so excited he didn’t even get his own face in the picture! 🙂

Anyone who has been following our journey on Married At First Sight and MAFS: The First Year knows how much I’ve wanted to be a mommy. It’s really been my biggest dream in life. Ever since I had the joy of taking care of my younger siblings when I was in college I learned how sweet and rewarding it is to give love and care for kiddos. I have had the joys of having SIX nieces and nephews running around, making all the holidays and every-day-life that much better. I love each of them dearly! But, to have a child of my very own?! To decorate a nursery, wrap Christmas presents for, and even diaper changing and every few hour feedings … ahh, I can’t even begin to explain how excited I am! 🙂

Not So Fast

Now, anyone who knows my husband, Doug, knows that he was a bit more hesitant than me to begin our family. And by a “bit” I really mean there was No Way, No How he was having a baby before he felt ready. I’m not sure what gave me the hint first: when he adamantly said “No babies yet!” or when he created a mile long “Pre-Baby Bucket list” with exotic and wild adventures which included swimming with sharks, skydiving, and going on a “real” ghost hunt among other crazy trips before our baby Hehner came into the world? I took the clue.

This is the face of a happy pregnant lady! 😀

And I am so glad that I did. Looking back I think it was quite naive of me to assume that because we are married and I am “ready” that my husband should just follow along. I mean, c’mon, how sensible is it to push someone into having a baby. That isn’t fair to the baby or to him. So I did what any good little wifey would do (And I am the first to admit I am no “perfect wifey” – check out my book Wifey 101: Everything I Got Wrong After Finding Mr. Right.) I helped him TACKLE that pre-baby bucket list! Side Note: he was so right about us not being ready to have a baby, but more on this later.

South African Baby – Wait, What?!

The final item on my hubby’s Pre-Baby Bucket list was going to South Africa. He wanted to go on a wild safari. I planned the whole trip for my hubs and gave it to him last October for his 33rd birthday. We went to South Africa in February, 2016. Before we left Doug asked me if we could start trying for a baby while in Africa. I certainly was ok with that! (We actually began trying without really trying — you know the whole “let’s just see what happens” — in December which was quite silly knowing we had this HUGE trip planned over seas.)

Our trip to South Africa was a whole lot of practicing for baby making … and you know what they say … practice makes perfect! I guess they’re right because our practicing paid off. In April we found out we were 5-6 weeks along! Below is a look at our very first trip to the doctors to confirm our pregnancy with ultrasound! Note: this doctor visit is only a minute long and completely unedited, but the BEST thing you’ll ever see. At least it was for us! 🙂

  1. That is cold and cruel. Why couldn’t you just be happy for them, and now mourn with Jamie and Doug? I pray that this horrific time will make them stronger as a couple.

  2. I just wanted to tell you that you are a beautiful, sweet and precious young woman, and my heart is broken for you. I am complete stranger to you yet I still wanted to tell you that I am so very sorry for the terrible loss of your sweet little baby. My heart aches for you and your husband. I will absolutely keep you both in my prayers.

  3. I am just beyond excited for you both!!! I can’t wait to follow along on your incredible journey! Good luck to you both!!

  4. Jamie, I am 68, and miscarried my only pregnancy 24, almost 25 years ago. We both want to thank you for sharing the untra-sound. My hubby got to see what it SHOULD have looked like. We are so thrilled for you and Doug. Thanks, again.

  5. Hello, your baby maybe the first in US, but here in Finland there is already two Married At First Sight babies. Good luck to you with everything.

  6. Are you both going to be surprised about the sex of the baby or find out soon as you can? from your fan from day one
